Volunteer at the St. Louis County Pet Adoption Center
The St. Louis County Pet Adoption Center's volunteer program is rooted in socially conscious sheltering, an approach focused on providing the highest standards of care for animals, increasing adoption rates, and ensuring the safety and well-being of pets and people. As a volunteer, you will play an important role in improving the lives of shelter animals through individualized care, enrichment activities, and responsible pet advocacy.
- Provide shelter animals with individualized care, enrichment, and socialization to support their well-being and increase their chances of adoption
- Build strong relationships between the shelter and local residents while raising awareness about responsible pet ownership and the shelter's resources
- Enhance your skills in animal care and shelter operations, with opportunities to participate in skill-based volunteer roles that match your expertise
Become a Foster for the St. Louis County Pet Adoption Center
Fostering a pet from the St. Louis County Animal Shelter helps two animals! Bringing home a foster pet helps alleviate some of the stress and anxiety that comes with living in an animal shelter. Fostering also helps the shelter manage population numbers, especially when nearing capacity. Foster families will be given everything they need to ensure the foster experience is successful and rewarding for the family and the animal.
- Frees up space so the shelter can take in more animals
- Lets animals decompress away from the stress of the shelter
- Fostered animals tend to get adopted faster
- You pick the animal and the timeframe that works for you
